During the period 3000 BCE to 10th Century AD, India was famously known as the Golden Sparrow. With great riches, trade, exploring economy, and a plethora of knowledge, ancient India witnessed the Golden Era.

But do we know that this Land of Gold, is also the land of the earliest diamonds ever found? The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago.

Until the 18th century, India was thought to be the only source of diamonds. A majority of these early stones were transported along with the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road. As the reserves started to deplete, other parts of the world were explored for the same.
